14% computer gain for '84

The keyboarding is done. The tally is in. Next year's revenues for the computer and business equipment industry are expected to reach $148.5 billion, up 14 percent over 1983.
Historically, average industry revenues have grown at a 13.5 percent rate between 1974 and 1983. The 1984 estimate reflects expectations of a strong recovery from the recent recession.
The industry manufacturers association also predicts that spending on research and development will climb 11 percent. This matches a National Science Foundation report which finds that overall private industry funding of R&D will also rise 11 percent.
